Officers’ report

            Upcoming Events – Pat Snyder

·        Richmond Meetings & Jefferson Dinner

·        Letter and petitions were available for Mark Warner for U.S.  Senate - deadline June 14th -- Signatures for petitions --- registrations (incl. names/address/last 4 digits of SS#'s).  Forms correctly witnessed 

·        Workshop in April  - on Grassroots and how we can grow the neighborhoods and districts

·        Information from Garr Johnson spearheading letter writing campaign to Commonwealth Atty. Robert Hicks of Gloucester County.  Those citizens not happy with the actions of Gloucester County Supervisors are encouraged to writ letters directly to Atty. Hicks encouraged continued letters to the Editor, local newspaper with copy of your letters to Mr. Hicks.  If 50 letters are received Hicks will pursue the moving forth of the citizens concerns and ask for a grand jury.

 

·        Phone Tree- -We would like you to call with reminders of time, location, and speakers prior to each meeting.  Each person is asked to call about 12 persons.

 

·        2008 State Convention – May 17, at the Marriott in Williamsburg

 

First Vice Chair -Arnold Nye – announced the speaker for March will be Levar Stoney, Executive Director of Virginia Democrat Committee

 

Chuck Thompson – Publicity did not get out I time.  George Larrimore has agreed to work on the publicity with Chuck

 

 Standing Committee reports

 

 Central Committee Report – Katie Thompson – Meeting to be held March 15, 2008

 

Unfinished Business – Prevail is gone.  It has been replaced by VAN – Pat will investigate more into this program

New Business –

Volunteers still Needed – The Democrat Party Plan of Virginia suggest the following standing Committees.  The chair will read a brief overview of the tasks of each of these groups, with the idea that we each should volunteer to help with something, so none of us will be burdened with a lot of work.  We Need volunteers to serve as coordinators for the following:

·        Affirmative Action Coordinator

·        Audit Committee

·        Fundraising

·        Finance Committee

·        Grievance

·        Membership

·        Nominating

·        Planning Organizer

·        Precinct Organization -  Judy Vaughn and Pat Cooney --- Precinct Managers

·        Outreach Coordinator

·        Technology Coordinator

·        Public Relations – Chuck Thompson and George Larrimore

 

·        Daffodil Festival – Moved and approved that we should take advantage of this chance to get the Dems name out.  We will have a sign up sheet at next mee4ting.

 

·        George Zahn – special thanks to everyone for working the voting booths.    George also asked if anyone would like to work the polls.  They are anticipating a very busy time in November and will need al of the help they can get.  We need at least 50 more to volunteer.  Pat added that we should also maintain a list of those that would be willing to drive people to the polls as she received a call and Carl took them to vote.

 

Program for the evening – Pat presented a Power Point presentation that was given at the Richmond meeting by the Democrat National Committee – “Make a difference – One Neighbor at a Time”

Sign-up cards were also distributed to the membership

 

 Next Meeting – Monday, March 17, 2008, 7:00 pm at the Fire & Rescue Station #5 on Providence.  We will hold an assembled caucus prior to the meeting.  All detail will be on the website and you will be emailed the procedure
